Darling Lake, what a pretty name!
The town of Alexandria in Minnesota, where this lake sets, is located half way between Minneapolis, MN and Fargo, ND on I-94. It is a popular place for summer vacations and family winter getaways.
That October morning I woke up around 5:00 a.m. The weather was unusually warm for the season and I decided to get up and sat on the balcony with a cup of coffee to clear up my mind from the bad news I had just received. About halfway through my coffee the sun started rising on the lake. I grabbed my camera and shoot these pictures. The birds were chirping in the trees and the Canadian geese were taking a break from their seasonal migration south. The scene was so peaceful.
This is lakes country, and besides all water related activities to keep you busy, I would suggest a few additional things to look into while visiting:
The Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum
The Museum is dedicated to bring the value of lake traditions in Minnesota and their preservation. You’ll find handcrafted wood boats, Grand Hotel history, a fishing gallery and the history of Chris-Craft & Larson Boat Works.
Carlos Creek Winery
A fun and beautiful place for wine tasting on a rainy or cold day at the lake. They are open all year long and offer live music on the weekend.
Alexandria Aviation
Booking a ride to see lakes country from the air with a scenic airplane tour is an exciting way to see Minnesota.
